A Thousand Pieces, Carefully Chosen

The 2016 exhibition at the National Museum of Korea marked forty years since the Sinan wreck’s discovery, displaying over 1,300 objects: stacked ceramics, crates, coins, sandalwood, and more. It gave visitors a powerful sense of the ship’s scale and organisation.

This virtual gallery takes a more selective approach. Rather than show everything, we highlight key pieces that reveal trade strategy, kiln diversity, and temple-linked commerce. The image beside you shows just part of that original display — a reminder of how archaeological finds can overwhelm, but also inform, when thoughtfully curated.
