This mural shows the royal city of Khotan in the late 10th century. Enclosed by high red walls with battlements and corner towers, the city has foour main gates as well as one iunner-city gate. The grid system ahad alocated areas for the royal palace, the main religious sites and a market. Processions of figures move along axial paths. Two rivers flow outside the walls, and stylized mountains rise in the distance, situating the city within a broader sacred landscape.
