Houthis Resume Attacks on Ships in Red Sea
Houthi rebels attacked a vessel in the Red Sea October 28, marking the first attack on shipping by the rebel group since the U.S. military bombed underground Houthi bunkers on October 17.
Reuters reports that Houthis set off a series of explosions near the Liberian-flagged Montaro container vessel as it passed through the strait that separates the Red Sea from the Gulf of Aden. The ship was not damaged, nor were any injuries reported. Houthis claimed they also attacked two other Liberian-flagged ships in the Arabian Sea the same day, although Reuters was unable to confirm the alleged incidents.
Based out of Yemen, Houthi rebels have carried out almost 100 missile and drone attacks against ships in the Red Sea over the last year, sinking two and killing at least four crew members. The most recent Houthi attack in the Red Sea before this one took place on October 10.
