An Arizona-based company said February 15 that it is planning to build a $344 million factory in Georgia that will make recycled glass products used to build solar panels.

According to the Associated Press, Solarcycle said that it would hire over 600 employees to work at the Cedartown, Georgia-based facility, which is set to open in 2026.

Company spokesperson Brooke Havlik said that Solarcycle selected Cedartown so that the venue could be close to American solar panel manufacturers.

Solarcycle said that its automated recycling process can extract materials that equate to 95% of a solar panel’s value.

The company said that it will be able to recycle 1 million solar panels at the Cedartown facility. Once the recycling process is completed, the factory will produce enough glass to generate 5 gigawatts of electricity annually. From there, Solarcycle said that it would sell the glass to American companies that make solar panels.

“Solarcycle provides a critical piece to the integrated solar supply chain we are building in Georgia,” said Pat Wilson, Georgia’s economic development commissioner, in a statement.

Earlier in February, the South Korean-owned company Qcells signed a contract with Solarcycle to recycle decommissioned Qcells panels in the U.S. Solarcycle added that it has similar contracts with 40 other solar power businesses.
