Moving Robots Site-to-Site

October 5, 2023

Challenge: A large e-commerce provider with an inventory of 100M products needed to modernize its order fulfillment due to growing demand and stringent SLAs. But highly seasonal demand across its network of warehouses left them with a choice: Invest in a system that operates under capacity for most of the year, or one that can’t meet the peak volume.

Solution: After extensive research, the customer decided to outfit three sites with the Skypod® system due to the unique blend of high-performance and flexibility that it offered.

Results: In addition to increasing throughput and storage capacity by 5X, the customer reaped the benefits of being able to move robots between the sites to address seasonality. For example, just this year, the customer was able to quickly accommodate a 10% increase in throughput in one of the facilities by simply moving robots from one site to another.

About the Solution Provider: Exotec builds elegant goods-to-person systems that utilize mobile robots tto move goods between high-density storage and ergonomic picking stations.
